Glen Hazel Bald Eagle Nest Live Cam offers a rare glimpse into the daily lives of a pair of bald eagles and their eaglets in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This live webcam world stream is a collaboration between PixCams and the Housing Authority City of Pittsburgh, with Tamarack Wildlife Center as an education partner. The camera is positioned near the Monongahela River, just six miles from downtown Pittsburgh, and is operated under a special permit from the Pennsylvania Game Commission for educational purposes.
Nest Location and History
The Glen Hazel nest was discovered in April 2025, located about a mile upriver from the former Hays nest, which collapsed in August 2024. The eagles, known as Mom and HM2, previously nested at Hays and have now established this new site. The nest is situated in a tree near the Waterfront Costco parking lot, offering visitors a chance to observe the eagles from a safe distance. The camera is powered by Duquesne Light Company with support from U.S. Steel Corporation.
Eagle Family and Nesting Season
During the 2025 nesting season, the pair raised two eaglets, GH1 and GH2. Eggs were laid in late February to early March, hatched in late March to early April, and the eaglets fledged in late June and early July. By late August, both eaglets had dispersed. This online webcam allows viewers to follow the entire nesting cycle, from egg-laying to fledging, providing a unique educational opportunity.
Technical Setup and Viewing Experience
The camera live feed is captured using a 4-inch dome pan-tilt-zoom IP camera with integrated IR illuminators, an EZ Streamer encoder, and a Cradlepoint cellular router. The 24/7 webcam stream is available on YouTube, with chat commands for common questions. Nightbot commands help viewers learn more about the eagles and the nest. The stream is moderated to ensure a friendly and educational environment.
Conservation and Education
This camera live stream serves as a tool for wildlife education and conservation. The Pennsylvania Game Commission's mission is to manage wild birds and mammals for future generations. By watching this live webcam, viewers can learn about bald eagle behavior, nesting habits, and the importance of habitat preservation. The partnership with Tamarack Wildlife Center provides additional educational resources for teachers and students.
